Logitech HD Pro C920 Review

Logitech HD Pro C920 Review

The Logitech HD Pro C920, a legend among webcams. While there are numerous webcams on the market today that boast the ability to shoot full 1080p HD video, many such models can only shoot or stream in 1080p at the cost of a lowered framerate. This means the footage they produce will be high resolution but the video will appear jerky or sluggish at best.

What truly sets Logitech’s HD Pro C920 aside from the rest is its capacity to shoot and stream full, 1080p video with a framerate of 30 fps. Not only that, this webcam offers superb audio, a plethora of features and a more intelligent design than almost all of the other models we have tested. Hence, the Logitech HD Pro C920 is our champ when it comes to recommendations for a cam.

Let’s Talk Quality.

Video

The Logitech HD Pro C920 offers some of the best quality video available for a cost efficient webcam. As discussed, the ability to shoot at 30 fps at 1080p really sets this model aside and produces crystal clear quality footage. We found that the results of the Logitech HD Pro C920 were fluid and life-like and when it comes to viewer satisfaction, that counts! Even if you don’t have the bandwith to support 30 fps at 1080p, the additional functionality can be used to record videos such as vlogs and follower messages.

While testing, we found that colour accuracy, sharpness, lack of distortion and lowlight performance far surpassed some of the other models in a similar price range. This should be unsurprising however as the Logitech HD Pro C920 has been a market leader since it’s release.

At 15 megapixel, the camera also produces sharp, colourful images that look really good. As with most webcams, this is done using a technique called interpolation, a kind of digital enlargement technique that uses various algorithms to add pixel density. While you won’t get the same quality as shooting a real camera at 15 megapixel, you should still be able to achieve excellent results, especially for a webcam.

Audio

Another hugely important aspect to any webcam is the quality of the audio. While it may be a midrange webcam, it is not lacking in any department. The audio produced by the Logitech HD Pro C920 is without a doubt high end and compliments the high quality video perfectly. The C920 is actually fitted with two different microphones, one on each side of the camera. We have found that the stereo sound produced by this cam is excellent and natural sounding. We did have some muffling at times but, for the most part, the experience was rich and full on.

Build Quality

The Logitech HD Pro C920 looks excellent and definitely has one of the nicer designs that we’ve seen. Not only does it look and feel great, it also provides a sturdy and reliable versatility. You could use this webcam hand held, mounted to a laptop or in a tripod and it would work great no matter which option you chose.

Additional Features.

Logitech is the number one producer of webcams and their development work has pioneered the industry. The Zeiss lens that comes with the model is one of the highest quality lens you can find for this price point and you may think that a lens is trivial, but you have to remember that light passes through it to reach the camera. A bad lens produces a bad image quality and by rights, a good lens produces good image quality. Not only quality is affected by the Zeiss lens; Durability is as well. You can expect the lens to withstand minor falls and bumps that may crack a cheaper lens.

As mentioned before, Logitech rule this industry and unsurprisingly offer excellent support for all of their products. That’s why the C920 comes with a two year warranty as standard, although with the ease of use and outstanding durability, it’s unlikely you will need much support.

A few optional features exist such as in-built face tracking and up to x4 digital zoom. The main feature you should be excited about is the ability to change exposure and contrast alongside manual focus. This is important as no two rooms are the same and being able to customise your cam for any room is a huge plus.

Summary

Despite being nearly 10 years old as of writing, this cam is still exceedingly popular due to it’s track record of being a fantastic cam that offers excellent video quality and superb audio. The price has dropped dramatically since it’s initial release and that means it’s within the reach of even the most strapped-for-cash performer. We feel that you will love the Logitech HD Pro C920 and we cannot recommend it enough for it’s price to performance ratio.
